This is one of my favourite places to eat. The staff are always very friendly and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere.
The evening menu has a huge selection of food and it’s specialities are wonderful. We try go to Omar Khayyam’s whenever we are in Edinburgh and have never had the same meals twice.
The prices are average restarant prices at around £10 per main but the portions are large and the food is lovely so worth the money.

I seem to eat a lot of lunches out. This is a favorite non vegetarian curry place.
We go for the set menu at lunch time. I challenge anyone to finish the lentil soup and chicken biriyani and still be able to work in the afternoon.

I was in Edinburgh on business and had that need for a curry. I decided to try the Omar Khayyam and I was not disappointed. The staff were very quick to greet me and show me to a table, they were equally fascinated by West Country English accent. It was fairly quiet when I arrived but it soon filled up. Despite the number of people the staff never lost their attentive nature. I had my favourite Jalfrezi dish (forgive me for the correct spelling..they name it differently) and the chicken was succulent white breast meat. It wasn't too hot and the accompanying rice and Naan bread were prepared fresh and hot. The Cobra beer was cold and fresh..a real treat. The novelty for me was the yoghurt type sauce that accompanies the popadums....it was pink, something I have never seen in other Indian restaurants but tasty nonertheless!
The balance of attention was just right, not always on your case but never far away when you needed them. The food was fresh and tasty, the portion size is generous when compared to some restaurants, I was certainly full.
I travel the UK a lot and this is right up there with my favourite Indian restaurants. I recommend it to anyone and will certainly be looking forward to my next visit.

The Omar Khayyam is a lovely Indian restaurant in the west end of Edinburgh.
I have visited the restaurant on numerous occasions for both lunch and dinner and highly recommend it for both its extensive menu and friendly, helpful service.
I particularly enjoy the beef korma - the meat is always tender and delicious and is a real pleasure.
Western dishes are also available on the menu if you prefer not to sample the spicier fare and this is also helpful if you visit with a child.
This restaurant isn't cheap, but its definitely worth the money you pay.

This is a restauant that I have visited regularly and never been disappointed.
